UTM 2K7 Southwest U15 Softball Team Brings Home Hardware From National Tournament

The Team Travelled To Saskatoon and Won The National Bronze Medal

The UTM 2K7 Southwest U15 Girl's softball team represented Ontario at the U15 Canadian Nationals held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from August 3-7 and brought home a bronze medal. The tournament consisted of twenty-one teams from across the country and featured a number of fantastic festivities along with exhilarating gameplay throughout the entirety of the event. The tournament format was a six-game round robin followed by playoffs.

 

The UTM 2K7 Southwest squad finished first in their pool going 5-1 against some fierce competition by teams from Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and Newfoundland. This earned them a berth to participate in the championship round of the top twelve teams in the country. In the playoff round, the team narrowly defeated team British Columbia Two with a score of 3-2, guaranteeing the team a medal. The team went on to earn the bronze medal the following day.

 

Georgetown, Ontario native and Team Ontario member Sierra Roy was awarded a Fastpitch All Star Award for top utility player. Bat girl, Ellie Butcher was also recognized for her contributions to the team all tournament.

 

Members of the bronze medal winning side include Julianna Merritt, Keira O'Reilly, Cara Skye, Sierra Roy, Kendall Rainey, Georgia Willsie, Serena D'Amico, Madigan Butcher, Abby Post, Pyper Morley, Tess Squire, Chloe Jones and MacKenzie Steele as well as head coach Darryl O'Reilly and assistant coaches Denise Roy and Derek Morley.
