Over the last few days, 519 Sports Online has received numerous messages about our status. “Is 519 Sports shutting down?”… “Has Darren been laid off?”… “What’s going to happen with 519?”… The answer is NO, we are not shutting down.
Certainly, things changed on Thursday night for us when all local sports teams postponed or cancelled their seasons, and everyone who made those decisions, 100 percent made the correct call. The safety and well being of athletes, coaches and fans is the most important thing, in these uncertain times.
However, there are still local sports stories to be told, despite no actual games taking place for the next little while. Starting Monday March 15th, 519 Sports Online will continue to provide as much content as reasonably possible. The volume of videos certainly won’t be anywhere near what you’ve seen, but we’re going to continue to collect and post content on the platform.
Our goal isn’t to diminish or minimize what’s going on around us. Our goal is to provide something positive on your timelines, to be a distraction with local sports content even for just a few minutes.
Additionally, we plan to start a #519Flashback segment looking back on great games and exciting moments over the last few years, since our platform started.
From an information perspective, we will work hard to keep you updated on when seasons may resume. My first and only intent on Thursday night was to post as much information as possible about the status of local teams and leagues.
At 519, we have a responsibility to share as much information as possible to keep you informed.
In closing, please know our videographers and myself have been vigilant in cleaning and sanitizing our microphones and equipment after each interview we conduct.
We will continue to provide further updates about 519 Sports in the coming weeks, as things evolve in the world around us.
Thanks for supporting and watching 519, take care of yourself and each other.
Darren
