Evan Smith from Pauline Johnson CVS in Brantford is taking his game to the next level. Smith committed to the Windsor Lancers in OUA football on Thursday afternoon in front of family and friends at his signing ceremony.
Smith, 6'3", 185 lbs, a long time 99er with Brantford Minor Hockey who also excelled at soccer, didn’t start playing football until grade 10 where he quickly took to the game after that. This past summer, starting at quarterback, he led the Brantford Bisons Senior Varsity team to an Ontario Football Conference championship. He can also play at receiver, defensive back and punter/place kicker.
Bisons coach Jim Jeavons was there for the signing. “This is an exciting day for the Bison family. Evan has been at the heart of our successes over the past few seasons. His resilience, dedication and passion for the game are second to none. We are very happy to have another Bison member joining the Lancer family”.
Other coaches were also present including former PJ Head Coach Ken Chisholm. “Over my 30 years of coaching, I’ve had a number of players that went on to play university football in Canada and the US. Evan is among the very best of them in terms of sheer athletic ability and toughness. I know he will be successful at the next level – I’m very excited for him”.
Brantford has a real connection with the Lancers football program as Smith will be joining several of his Bisons teammates on the squad next season.
