Kitchener-Waterloo has lost five of six to start season

The K-W Titans have been unable to carry over momentum from last year’s National Basketball League of Canada first-round playoff upset of the London Lightning, and have dropped five of their first six contests this season.

The Titans opened the schedule against London, and couldn’t overcome a seven point halftime deficit as the Lightning went on to win 102-93. K-W bounced back the next night by winning its home opener, a 115-107 victory over the Sudbury Five. Veteran Damon Lynn led the way for the Titans with a game-high 31 points, scoring 15 points more than any teammate. When the calendar flipped to 2020, Sudbury salvaged its loss by handling K-W, 118-91, at The Aud to drop the Titans below .500 again.

Last week, the Lightning again got the better of the Titans, beating them 113-97 in London before K-W departed for St. John’s this week. In Newfoundland, K-W lost a back-and-forth game to the Edge, 119-115, then fell behind early the next night as St. John’s cruised to a 100-86 win, the Titans’ fifth loss of the season.

K-W has an opportunity to get back into the win column and out of the Central Division’s basement tonight, as the Windsor Express host the Titans at 7 pm. Windsor has only played three games this season, compiling a record of 1-2. A win would send K-W past them in the early-season standings. The Titans are back home in Kitchener next week, with games on Tuesday and Thursday night against the Island Storm (Charlottetown) and Windsor, respectively. London leads the Central with a 5-1 record, while Sudbury is in second at 3-3.
