Fifth-year running back caps off incredible OUA career with All-Canadian honours
The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks have a First Team All-Canadian. Fifth-year running back Levondre Gordon received the U Sports honour last night at the league’s awards gala in Quebec City, ahead of the Vanier Cup this weekend.
The Mississauga native finished this season averaging 6.1 yards per carry with 1,016 total rushing yards on 167 carries, which placed him second overall in the country. It was the first time in Gordon’s five-year career that he eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in a season.
The 5’10” back scored four touchdowns on the ground, giving him 25 rushing TDs during his time at Laurier, which ranks him third on the school’s all-time list. Gordon also ranks second all-time in career yards (3,348) and carries (534). He was a part of Laurier’s 43-40 upset victory over Western in the 2016 Yates Cup finals, rushing for a touchdown early in the game before the Golden Hawks rallied from a 40-19 deficit in the fourth quarter to win.
Gordon was a first year starter that season, taking over for the last Golden Hawk to earn All-Canadian honours, running back Dillon Campbell, who earned the title in both 2014 and 2015.
