Everyone should get some physical activity every day. I understand that sometimes it’s hard to fit it into your schedule when you have a lot of other things on your plate. It’s also hard to develop your skills when you’re busy with other things all the time. That’s why Intramurals are not only a great source of physical exercise but also a mental breather from your busy days at school.
I think that intramurals are great and I always attend them when I have time. It helps me stay fit, take my mind off of school and it’s fun! But I want to know if other students agree or disagree with me. I asked four students why they attend intramurals and they all gave me their answers. I’m going to be seeing how they agree or disagree with me.
First, I asked Harman Singh who is a student in grade 11 why he comes to Intramurals, to which Harman answered:
“It allows me to play sports with friends at break very easily.”
Harman plays it for a different reason then I do. Harman sees it as an opportunity to have fun and bond with his friends while enjoying some friendly competition. Harman hasn’t played sports his whole life and now he’s been getting into basketball because of Intramurals. Not only do intramurals keep you occupied at lunch but it could also get you to find a whole new hobby.
Next, I asked Darshan Nandha why he comes to intramurals, to which he answered:
“I go for leisure and to interact with friends in a competitive nature.”
Darshan goes for similar reasons to me but different from Harman. Darshan plays to use his free time wisely as this will benefit him physically and also mentally. Darshan also plays to interact with friends in a competitive nature which is similar to me. When you play sports with your friends I think it’s a great way to develop your communication and team-work skills with each other.
After that, I asked Milan who is a very good basketball player from Cameron Heights, who answered:
“I go to intramurals to play basketball with friends and to improve my skills as I can play with older and more experienced players and when I play with them every day I get better.”
Milan goes for a completely different reason than me, Harman or Darshan. Milan goes to improve his basketball skills and better himself by playing with his friends, which is an excellent strategy because everyone knows practice makes perfect. This is also the best way to improve because nobody will give you constructive criticism like the people you spend the most time with.
Last but not least I asked David, who answered:
“Because its fun, keeps me fit and it’s a good way to get my mind off of work.”
David goes to intramurals for a similar reason to Harman as they both have never played sports competitively. They both play sports for fun but like Harman, David has started to enjoy sports more even playing them in his spare time after school. Fitness is also another good thing that intramurals help with as not everyone has the time or the money to go to the gym but at intramurals, students can get it done in the hour they have off from their busy lives.
So now we’ve seen all different kinds of reasons why people go to intramurals. Whether the reason is to have fun, find a new hobby, develop better relationships with friends, improve your skills or get a mental breather, everyone gets some sort of benefit from going to intramurals.
I recommend that students at any school try intramurals as it has benefits for Harman, Darshan, Milan, and David and will definitely benefit you also!
