Golden Hawks hold off Warriors in front of big crowd at The Aud

The annual School Day game between the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks and the Waterloo Warriors was a success again this year, as over 5,000 fans filled the Kitchener Auditorium to watch the rivals do battle. In a tight affair, it was Laurier winning the Battle of Waterloo - that also served as Laurier's Teddy Bear Toss this year - for the third straight year, 3-1.

Fourth-year forward Will Cook opened the scoring for Laurier on a nice feed from former Kitchener Ranger Brandon Robinson, and unleashed a flurry of teddy bears raining down from the lively crowd. It was Cook's second time scoring the Teddy Bear goal, after scoring it versus Guelph in his first year. Waterloo native Danny Hanlon doubled Laurier's lead in the second period with Robinson and Cook earning assists. Waterloo would get a goal back early in the third period from Nick Chyzowski, but another former Ranger Mike Davies scored into the empty net with time expiring to seal the 3-1 win. Freshman goaltender Tyler Fassl was excellent all game, stopping 29 shots for Laurier in earning his sixth win of the season.

The Golden Hawks will be on the road tonight in St. Catherine's to take on the Brock Badgers, while the Warriors are home to the Toronto Varsity Blue's tonight.
