It was opening day in WCSSAA and District 8 football on Wednesday afternoon. Here is a quick recap of what happened.

Sir John A. MacDonald vs Elmira

The Highlanders started the season on a winning note picking up a 35-21 victory over the Lancers. Ty David scored 2 touchdowns for SJAM, Ahmed Fouad, Jarrett King and Simon Deckert all had one touchdown for the Highlanders.

SJAM is back on the field Thursday September 27th visiting the Waterloo Oxford Crusaders. The Lancers play on the road on Friday September 28th against the Glenview Park Panthers in Cambridge.

Bluevale vs Grand River

After 16 months on the sidelines, Jordan Schmidt returned to the Bluevale Knights lineup and he was all smiles after the game. Bluevale won it on the road 14-2 over the Renegades. Joel Gilmour scored on a punt return for the Knights and Callum Knox punched it in on a 1 yard run helping Bluevale open their season with a victory.

Next up for the Knights is a date with the Jacob Hespeler Hawks on Friday September 28th at 3pm at Bluevale. The Renegades also play again on the 28th visiting the Huron Heights Huskies.

St. Benedict vs Resurrection

Jackson Lewis had a big day on the ground for the Resurrection Phoenix in their season opener at home. Lewis scored the first touchdown of the game on the opening drive for the Phoenix and they never looked back. Resurrection knocked off the defending District 8 champions by a final score of 41-3. 

On the field Thursday night in District 8, the St. Mary's Eagles visit the St. David Celtics. Kick off is at 7 o'clock at St. David in Waterloo.
