The Brampton Excelsiors capped off a terrific season in Junior A Lacrosse on Tuesday night bringing home the Ontario Championship. With the victory, Brampton punches a ticket into the Minto Cup national tournament taking place next week in Calgary.
The Excelsiors roster includes 3 players with a local connection. Tyler Biles is a forward with the Elmira Sugar Kings Junior B hockey team in the GOJHL. Goaltender Steven Orleman is a Kitchener native who spent the majority of this season playing for the K-W Braves. Orleman was traded to Brampton at the trade deadline. Robbie Stovel hails from Fergus and he's also a member of the Excelsiors championship team.
Brampton clinched the best of seven championship series with a 13-6 victory over the Orangeville Northmen on Tuesday. Robbie Stovel chipped in offensively with a goal and an assist. Steven Orleman picked up the victory between the pipes. The Excelsiors take the series 4 games to 1 and they will now start preparing for the Minto Cup. Their opening game is on Thursday August 16th in Calgary.
