Eight divers from the Kitchener Waterloo diving club attended the Ontario Sumer Games in London, Ontario over the Civic Holiday weekend. The games are a mini-olympic style event held every second year for elite athletes from across the province. In addition to participating in the opening ceremonies, the divers fought the near 40 degree heat to compete.
KWDC divers Emmitt Reesor, Iain Gordon, Calum Roberts, Tyce Vandijk, Abi Dixon, Eva Jichici, Sammie Crossman and Erin Fennema collectively achieved 10 personal bests diving against competitors from Ontario’s other 10 diving clubs. Four divers won medals in every event they competed in: Emmitt Reesor won gold on all three boys C1 (12 year old) events: 1m springboard, 3m springboard and platform, while Tyce Vandijk, won gold on the 1m and bronze on the 3m board in the boys D (up to 11 years old). On the women’s side B (14 to 15 year old) diver Abi Dixon won silver in all three events while Eva Jichici won bronze on the 1 and 3m boards. C2 (13 year old) diver Sammie Crossman won silver on the 1m board after missing the bronze medal by only 0.03 points on the 3m board!
That’s 11 medals among 5 divers! A great showing by our local divers on the provincial stage. Congratulations athletes!
